There is an old saying, “Asking is a temporary shame, not asking is a lifelong shame.” In today’s world with the prevalence of computers and smartphones, this saying can be rephrased as “Asking is a temporary issue, not asking is letting treasure go to waste.”
Smartphones have a multitude of functions, so even if you can’t remember them all, your smartphone is still a valuable asset. But even if you ask young people, they may not be able to remember them right away. I hesitated and asked again, but still couldn’t recall. Eventually, it became too much trouble to ask. Whether I don’t remember clearly or the way it’s being taught is wrong, it’s difficult.
For those who are in such a situation, the most useful thing is the “LINE Basic Guide” that you can understand just by reading. In this article, we will explain some basic functions and several useful features to remember and use.

LINE various functions
LINE is a free messaging app mainly used on smartphones. It includes functions such as sending text messages, stickers, video calls, group chats, sharing location information, memos, reminders, and more.
New features are released regularly. Also, many elderly people are using LINE as a communication tool.
Speech
One of LINE’s representative features is “Talk.” Find someone you want to interact with in advance using QR code scanning or ID search, add them as a friend. Click on someone in the LINE Talk screen list and select “Chat.” Enter a message in the message field at the bottom of the screen and click on the icon that looks like a blue arrow. This will send the message to the other person.

You can also send images, videos, and other content. When inputting a message, there are icons for the camera, image, file, contact, and location, which you can use to send images, audio data, contacts, location information, etc.
After sending a message, when the other person opens the Talk screen and reads the message, the message will show as “Read.” This allows you to confirm if your message has been correctly conveyed to the other person.
You can also preview the first part of a message without opening the Talk screen. Therefore, if you do not want the other person to see the message as “Read,” you will only see part of the message on the chat list screen.
Furthermore, a message can be cancelled within 24 hours of sending it. Long press on the message you want to cancel. A menu will appear. Select “Cancel Sending.” A confirmation dialog will appear, follow the cancellation procedure. Not only text messages, but also sent images can be cancelled. The cancellation of the message will also be notified to the other person.
It is important to note “Deleting.” “Deleting” only deletes the message on your chat screen (for the sender), it does not delete the message on the other person’s chat screen. If you want to cancel a message from the other person’s chat screen, select “Cancel sending.”
Group functions
There are times when you need to exchange messages with only members of a class or company at the same time.
In such situations, groups come in handy. By creating groups according to the purpose, you can create a place for communication on specific topics.
First, tap the icon at the top right of the call list screen.
Next, select “Group.”
Once you have selected who you want to join the group, give the group a name. You can also freely set the icon for the group chat.
In the group chat, in addition to marking the chat as “Read,” a number next to it shows how many people have read it. This allows you to see if all the group members have read it.
Changing display name
You can change the name displayed to make it more user-friendly. The changed name will be displayed only on your LINE account, and other people’s names will not be changed, and they will not receive a notification of the change, so please be aware of that.
First, click on the person you want to change the display name for in the chat list. This will take you to the chat screen, where you select the person’s name in the upper-left corner.
This will display the other person’s profile screen. Click on the pen icon to the right of your name.
Switch to the “Change Display Name” editing screen, edit the name, then click “Save.” The display name has been changed.
